LoCascio is the founder of Silver Lining Ranch and
Adventures on Horseback, Inc. (Founded in 1997). Her
emphasis has always been on providing a barn where the
first time rider, or infrequent rider can engage in
riding activities without it being necessary for them to
be horse owners. As well as helping fulfill the dream of
others who wish to own a horse for the first time.
She has worked with many celebrities
over the years, including Emilio Estevez, William Shatner, R&B
artist Jay Z, Elizabeth Rohm, Virginia Madsen and Jennifer
Beal, to name only a few. She has also been interviewed by
KTLA News, E! Television, Vogue Magazine and LA Style as one
of the top trainers in Los Angeles. As well as an honorable
mention by Jenna Elfman on the Jay Leno Show, after her
unforgettable birthday ride.
Born and raised in
the rural areas of San Diego, California, she has had a great
love and respect for horses from a very early age. She has
been riding since the age of 8 and has earned many awards and
titles over her lifetime on the english and western show circuits and in professional barrel racing.
She is the current ETI Nationals Over-All Western High Point
Champion in 2006, after winning 3 divisions and placing 2nd in
two other divisions on her horse Bam Bam I Am. She has the
experience and ability to teach a wide spectrum of disciplines
including; Jumping, Hunter Under Saddle, Cross Rail
Hunters, Western Pleasure, Trail Course, Showmanship, and
Practical Horsemanship.
Her long time mentor and trainer was Wes
Whitlock, best known for his World Champion Appaloosa Stallion
"Scenic Frosted Jet". “ Wes was an incredible horseman who
taught me a great deal about riding a horse from your seat and
not relying on your reins to control a horses movement. It was
a resistance free way of training and I watched him fix a lot
of problem horses, simply by allowing them to relax and follow
his movement on their backs. It became their idea rather then
being forced into it and they became willing participants in
the dance he was orchestrating. He used to explain to me that
if he tied a single hair of the horses tail to the bit I
should be able to stop and turn with out breaking the tail
hair. Even though he passed away a few years ago, I am still
using his methods of training today.” In 2003 the difficult decision
was made to close the horse rental portion of the
business, known as Adventures on Horseback. “Times
have changed. People voluntarily choose to engage in
inherently dangerous activities and unfairly blame proprietors
if they fall victim to those choices. Insurance
companies find it's cheaper to settle then pay attorneys fees
and the result is higher premiums. I fear that we may place many recreational business in
great jeopardy if we don’t find ways to protect them against
frivolous law suits and coverage discrimination.”
She continues to
provide equestrian services to local clients and
youth organizations. And her riding lesson and camp program is
thriving. These days she is much more involved with hand
selecting and training horses for show and resale.
She is involved with the local community
and has donated her time and services to many worthy causes. She has an
excellent reputation for matching just the right horse to the
right person or family for a variety of disciplines. She also
spends time helping first time horse owners get the proper
equipment, riding attire and training that they will need to
have a successful connection with their horses.
Angie is currently training under
Multiple World APHA and PtHa Champions Tim & Karen Wildes of
Lakeside, California. Tim Wildes also trained under Wes
Whitlock and has similar training methods. He is also able to
share with her the latest trends and what the judges are
looking for today.
My
philosophy is simple: “You have to love what you are doing,
pay attention to detail and make sure the end result is
something you can be proud of. I believe I am helping others
get in touch with nature and themselves by sharing my love of
these great animals. Horses are mother earth’s ambassadors of
natural beauty and freedom.” “ It is our duty
to make sure they are not excluded from future development and protect them from abuses.”
